Following the return of East Stirlingshire in the summer of 1965 to Falkirk after the court case led to the break up of ES Clydebank,The Steedman brothers decided to remain in the town of Clydebank and continue their work on bringing top class football to the burgh.
As the 64-65 season had just ended and not enough time was left to fight for a league place they decided that rather than return to the Juniors ,they would build a team and compete in the Combined Reserve League for one season and hope to clinch their League status the following year.
The Combined Reserve League was split into two parts, covering the calender periods Autumn and Spring,Clydebank competed in both.
They would play against the reserve sides of East Fife,Airdrie,Queens Park,Queen of the South and the third teams of Rangers and Celtic as well as a team from Jordanhill Training College. At the first attempt the Bankies won The CRL Autumn series Championship with a fine 5-1 over Rangers at Kilbowie on Christmas Day 1965.They were finally elected to the League on the 27th May 1966 by 30 votes to 7 and the rest they say is history.
